OS X Lion has a tool that is built in to the operating system that will open previously used files and items when you re-launch an application that you previously had open.  This may be useful to some people but it can be frustrating to others.  The procedure to stop this behavior can be accomplished without administrative rights.

  1. Start by opening your computer’s System Preferences.  This can be launched by clicking on the Apple Logo in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Next Open the General section in system preferences.
  3. About 3/4 down the window you will see an option to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”
  4. Deselect this checkbox and you are done.  Changes are automatically saved to your computer.
  5. You are done.
