Google Apps for Education includes a number of web-based applications including:

  • Gmail
  • Google Calendars
  • Google Drive

These services are running and managing larger and larger parts of the organization’s operations across all of the campuses.  Until recently the only system we have to backup this data was to download offline versions of files for individual user and use local backup technology like Time Machine to backup the data.

In the summer of 2014 we joined a service called Backupify.  They provide incremental backup services for the school’s Google Apps data.  This is a cloud-to-cloud backup service.

Currently it is archiving all of the data for full-time OPTIONS staff and the Brehm, Inc Executive Admin team.  These users were chosen for this trial process due to the nature of their positions in Brehm, Inc and the level of integration of Google Apps in the operations at OPTIONS.

If you are a member of one of these two groups you can login at backupify.com to access your individual backups.

This article from Backupify’s Blog outlines the causes that someone may encounter which would result in needing to access the school’s data stored on Backupify’s backups and how to recover your files.

This is also a PDF version of Backupify’s User Guide that outlines how to view and access your individual backups.
