Technology has been doing some spring cleaning! With that it is applying some new automatic maintenance to the student computer systems. This includes:

  • Automatic removal of all data which does not belong to the use of the laptop. This means that if you log into another students laptop your data will be automatically removed from it the next time the primary user logs in. This will keep more free space available for the student user.
  • Automatic thinning of documents folder. Heavy network load files, which are send over the network every time the user loggs on or off and periodically thought out the day will be automatically removed. These include movies, music, and very large image files – all of which should not be included in your documents folder. This folder should only contain pertinent school related data that you need backed up for academic reasons.

The main goal of these changes are to increase home folder sync times, reduce the load of network traffic, and keep our automated backups as small and manageable as possible.
